Dear Members of the European Parliament,

For two years, students and teachers from six schools in different European countries have been involved in the Comenius Project Y.E.S (Young Europe’s Strategy). We have participated in the project with the purpose of increasing our understanding of the European Institutions, their work and politics. Additionally, we have worked with the intention of sharing our opinions and defining what young people think the EU should be.

These two years have been years of working intensively hand in hand and sharing wishes and dreams, one of them being that our proposals are heard and that our politicians in the European Parliament give our young people a chance for their voices and opinions to have validity.

We, the young people participating in this European educational project Y.E.S, consider that:

The partner schools of the project work called ‘YES’ have been working on the project for a bout two years and now we are all in Slovakia with the students from Spain, Turkey, Holland, Portugal, France and Slovakia. This is the fourth gathering session we are having and we could say that all the participants assume that the project work is continueing well.

People who think that they are the part of the work have been participating eagerly and we could admit that their enthusiasim has reached the highest point at this activity here in Presov, Slovakia. We would like to thank to anyone who took some kind of responsibility in this project work; the organiser Pablo, the representatives of partner schools, parents, students, teachers, school directors and other institutions which helped us do our work comfortably.

One of the objectives the project has conveyed is that all of us appricated with the activities and these initiatives let us recognise the need of tolerance and the awareness of peace and clean environment on our planet, the Earth. We reached this point from the generosity and solidarity among the partners about doing the best for the humanity today and for the future.

Assumingly, the teenagers who are being  preared for the future will be able to succeed in preparing better potential project works for the humankind. We, as teachers and educators, should be ambitious and enthusiastic to deal with the matters we and our kids have. Otherwise, it could be late to tackle with the problems when we feel that it is necessary to do something.

All in all, we belive that we have been doing our best to overcome all the potential risks for the whole world, not just only for the citizens of the EU.

Turkey in the EU PDF Print E-mail

My long experiences and imaginations force me that I cannot imagine an EU without Turkey or vice versa. As a candidate country, it applied for the union years ago but still is being asked to wait and do the house work prepared by the institutions of the union. It has been performing the regulations so fast but the Turkish are running out of their patience, which might be bilaterally negative.

The reasons why the EU has not accepted Turkey as a full membership so far is not our topic here. The idea in Turkey why other countries which have not developed as much (economically, educationally, socially, culturally and politically) as Turkey is increasing and cannot answerable by the EU executives in Turkey.

As part of our school project we believe that Turkey with all institutions is ready to be a member of the union. Partners say that Turkey should be allowed to join the EU and take part in all its institutions.

Who will benefit most from the acceptance of Turkey in the union? There is no doubt that both parts, the EU and Turkey will have beneficial acquisitions bilaterally. Time to think positively, not to complain about the lack of applications.

In the Y.E.S project, we understand that we are performing a brilliant task similar one that both parts should take into consideration.

12 April 2010

Our delegation for the “Young Europe’s Strategy’ Comenius project met at Schiphol airport Amsterdam at 5.30  ready to travel to Turkey. Everybody was on time and it didn’t take long before we were airborne and flying towards Istanbul. Our flight landed on schedule, and we had enough time to organise the necessary visa arrangements, go through passport control and exchange money, before we needed to board our connecting flight to Izmir. Our connecting flight was due to leave at 15.00. Unfortunately, Thomas was unable to find his boarding pass and as the clock began to tick we were busy emptying his jacket pockets, trouser pockets, rucksack and combing the floor for the missing pass. He had really lost it. Ms Oosterbaan showed nerves of steel in a tight situation and managed to arrange a new boarding pass. “Hold the flight” she shouted  as we approached the gate. They had held the flight, and we just managed to board the flight. Upon arrival at Izmir airport, we were met by a teacher from our host school, and, within an hour, we had arrived in Manisa. At the school our host families and host students were waiting, and it wasn’t long before our students were on the way to a new cultural experience.
